Imagine a remix of equal parts Teresa of Calcutta and the electronica duo The Knife. An environment of creative, challenging forms of expression and practical work on behalf of the very weakest. That is what I want the project Civil Oljudnad (civil noise of disobedience) to be. The materials used are sound, video and electronic waste. The working methods are remixes and non-violence. The goal is peace – as defined by physicist/feminist/pacifist/quaker Ursula Franklin: not only the absence of war, but the presence of justice and the absence of fear.

The focal point and start of this project is the Swedish weapons industry, which is one of the largest in the world per capita. The components of the project vary depending on the context in which it is presented. As an exhibition, it is a sound installation of non-violence loops, speech, music and actions by peace activists – everything from disarmament to speeches at mass demonstrations. In the future, the project might translate into a non-violent act of civil disobedience, in the form of a sound box with no off-switch that plays the sound installation inside a weapons manufacturing plant. On the internet, the project exists as anti-sexist arena house music.
