On the base of cultural norms, it seems that it is commonly accepted that one animal is considered “friend” while the other “food”, but if your cat tasted like chicken would you eat her?
As I work within the Contemporary art jewellery field, it is through the body, jewellery and the conscious act of wearing it, that I would like to encourage consumers to reflect on their personal meat consumption and to connect the packaged meat to the animal it comes from. I am not a vegetarian, but I have an interest in the subject from a consumer point of view and an ambivalent relationship towards my own consumption of meat products. Through my work, I aim to critically reflect on the different values that exist about animals in our society and to inspire more conscious and well-informed decisions concerning meat consumption.
Baserat på kulturella normer tycks det vara allmänt accepterat att vissa djur betraktas som ”vänner” och andra som ”mat” – men skulle du äta din katt om hon smakade kyckling?
Eftersom jag arbetar med modern smyckekonst är det med hjälp av kroppen, smyckena och den medvetna handling det innebär att bära dem som jag vill få konsumenter att reflektera över sin personliga köttkonsumtion och koppla det paketerade köttet till djuret som det kommer ifrån. Jag är inte vegetarian, men jag är intresserad av ämnet ur konsumentsynvinkel och har ett ambivalent förhållande till min egen köttkonsumtion. Genom mitt arbete vill jag reflektera kritiskt över de olika värderingar kring djur som finns i vårt samhälle och inspirera till mer medvetna och välinformerade val när det gäller köttkonsumtion.
