How can design create discussions about sustainability and economical politics? Earth Shares is a fictional rationing program with personal allowances on environmental impact. The project explores how such a system might work as well as both positive and negative aspects of it.
Earth Shares is explored through telling stories with design. Each story shows a different perspective of what living in a future with Earth Shares might be like. The first story focuses on an informational film from the government and the second a poster manifesto from a political movement who are in favor of Earth Shares. The third story centers on activists working for sustainable food production while the fourth focuses on an unintended consequence of the system, meat smuggling.
Together the stories create a nuanced picture of this future political change and provide a basis for discussion both about this specific concept and environmental politics in general.
Hur kan design inspirera till diskussioner om hållbarhet och ekonomisk politik? ”Earth Shares” är ett fiktivt ransoneringssystem där varje medborgare får en viss kvot miljöpåverkan. Projektet utforskar hur systemet fungerar såväl som positiva och negativa konsekvenser det orsakar.
Earth Shares utforskas genom att berätta historier med design. Historierna visar upp olika perspektiv på hur det skulle kunna vara att leva i en framtid där Earth Shares finns. Den första historien kretsar kring en informationsfilm från staten och den andra ett slags politiskt manifest i form av affischer. Den tredje historien handlar om en grupp aktivister som arbetar med hållbar matproduktion och den fjärde fokuserar på en negativ konsekvens av systemet, köttsmuggling.
Tillsammans skapar historierna en nyanserad bild av denna framtida politiska förändring och en grund för diskussioner både om detta specifika koncept och om miljöpolitik i allmänhet.
