I was reading about covered bridges in the USA (while searching for public spaces with roofs), and one of the stories that appeared regarding the origin of these bridges was about hay. Supposedly the covers helped shape perfect “loaves” of hay as the carts drove through the portals, across the covered bridges…
I sometimes think of all the activities that take place in the public space as being sprawled out like a large load of hay on a cart, but that they risk being pressed into a smooth loaf on the way across the neo-liberal urban development bridge.
If the public space had anything to do with hay, I am more drawn to the idea of a bushy haystack than something wrapped in those white, plastic bales.
Jag läste om täckta broar i USA (på jakt efter offentliga rum med tak) och en av de historier som figurerat angående broarnas tillblivelse handlade om hö. Det påstods att täckningen skulle ha hjälpt till att forma perfekta ”limpor” av hö när kärrorna åkte genom portalerna, över de täckta broarna…
Ibland tänker jag att alla aktiviteter i det offentliga rummet ligger och spretar i ett stort lass på en skrinda, men att de på vägen över den neo-liberala stadsbyggnads-bron riskerar att pressas ihop till en slät limpa.
Om det offentliga rummet hade någonting med hö att göra, så lockas jag mer av tanken på en yvig höskulle, än någonting som är inpackat i såna där vita plastrullar.
