Comics and exploration of “the cis gaze.” Wendel has coined the concept of “the cis gaze” to describe how people are divided into two sexes (gender): female or male. “Cis” means “on the same side,” in relation to “trans” which means “to move over.”
“The cis norm” is used here to describe the invisible rule that all people should identify with, the gender they were given at birth and that their gender identity, body and legal sex should be stable throughout life.
Wendel has interviewed persons with trans experiences and transcribed these into comics which are about gazes upon our bodies, how gazes are linked together with violence and sexual assault, gazes upon other bodies, exhibitionism, voyeurism and gazes that meet us as human beings.
Serier och ett utforskande av ”cisblicken”. Wendel har myntat termen ”cisblicken” för att beskriva hur människor delas in i två kön (genus): kvinna eller man. ”Cis” betyder ”på samma sida” och ska förstås i förhållande till ”trans” som betyder ”gå över”.
”Cisnormen” används här för att beskriva den oskrivna regeln att alla människor ska identifiera sig med det kön de tilldelats vid födseln och att deras könsidentitet ska vara konstant livet igenom.
Wendel har intervjuat personer med transerfarenheter och omvandlat erfarenheterna till serier som handlar om blickar på våra kroppar, hur blickar hänger ihop med våld och sexuella övergrepp, blickar på andra kroppar, exhibitionism, voyeurism och blickar som möter oss som människor.
